HAPPINESS - How to Be Happy ……..(1)

Do You Want Happiness ?

This simple question will always be answered with a big “Yes”. happy-face.gif Happy face image by thekronman
Yes , all of us without exception , want to have happiness, although the idea of what constitute happiness and how it can be obtained differs from person to person.Every one of us wants happiness, and not only in each moment of our daily life : we want an unchanging, ultimate happiness that can be experienced forever.

Every one of us is trying to stop our problems and find peace. No matter where we live, what race or culture we belong to, what religion or philosophy we follow, or what language we speak, we all wish to be happy and not have problems. Truly every living being has the basic wish to experience happiness and avoid suffering.

But so often, our attempts to find happiness end up only causing more pain. We need to understand the full potential of our mind, and we need to understand the importance of loving-kindness for our own happiness and for the happiness of the world. We need to learn how to transform every single experience - health and sickness , wealth and poverty, living and dying - into happiness.

Did you ever watch a child create a castle in the sand and see it happily express its satisfaction when its work had been completed ?

All of us that seek true happiness in life can learn a lesson from this child. For here you see a human being that has found its happiness , and if you will not seek to find your own, the same way as that child , you shall forever hunger after happiness in vain.

All happiness this mortal life affords- is joy experienced through creative effort. Be it that a person will create the timeless realm of love within his soul; be it that his creativity express itself within the province of the mind; or that material things provide his will the means creatively to manifest its power.

The joy experienced in creative work alone is real happiness, and all things else you regards as such will surely, if you trust them, betray and rob you of true happiness, as much as one can find it in this life.

So the pursuit of happiness is the root motivation of all human life. Beneath our so-called wants and desires for love, comfort, wealth, power, fame, etc., lies the unchanging quality of happiness - that all of us, without exception, seek - some consciously and most unconsciously . However, it is imperative to recognize that there is no one absolute way to arrive at happiness - no one path, no one science, no eternal unchangeable laws.

Happiness is essentially a product of a certain inner consciousness, which perceives everything in the externally manifested world. It is not what happens to us in life that determines our happiness so much as the way we react to what happens.

And to this Abraham Lincoln once said, “Most people are about as happy as they make up their minds to be.”

Happiness Comes From Oneself And The Society…..

Happiness is not about money but society that is engaged “                  -Prof  Ed. Diener

Is it the government’s job to make people happy ?

Those who demur would argue that happiness is within you. But Professor Ed. Diener ,the happiness guru, thinks that the argument that happiness is within oneself has been “over-emphasised “. He said that “It is also within a society and city ……and that leaders should foster happiness”

The governament’s job is not just to provide clean water , but also happiness ,along with well-being , according to the Professor. [Read more →]

Be Happy , Don’t Worry

Laugh and the world laughs with you;  weep and you weep alone. The happiness you give makes you more happy than the happiness you receive…..

Learn to Live in the Present Moment

I believe that in life, to a large degree, the measure of happiness and the measure of our happy mind is determined by how much we are able to live with a peace of mind and by how much we are able to live in the present moment.

Maturity of us  without question ,spend much of our lives worrying . We worry about many things, we worry about a variety of things :- all at once. We allow past problems and future concerns to dominate our present moments , so much so that we end up anxious , angry, frustrated, depressed and hopeless. More often we start to postpone our gratifications, our priorities , and above all our generosities , often convincing ourselves that “someday” will be better than today. However that “someday”  usually never actually comes. That “someday” just passes by and never arrives.

In short, we are always so busy chasing after other material wealth that we miss out on life, the people we love are moving away and dying , our bodies are getting out of shape, and our dreams are slipping away and finally when we are awoken and we realise that we have miss out on life. Many of us live as if Life were a dress rehearsal for some later date… It is not, and no one can guarantee that he or she will be around tomorrow.

When our attention is in the present moment, we push all our fears from our minds and it is this Fear that is the concern over events that might happen or might not happen in the future. To combat fear, the best strategy is to learn to bring your mind & attention back to the present.

Practise keeping your attention on the here and now and in this present moment. You will feel happier and more peaceful within yourself….

Why Are We So Unhappy….

If we are unhappy, it is because life is not as we want it. Life is not matching our expectations of how it “ought” to be and so we are unhappy. Do not expect to feel happy all the time. Happiness comes and go. Happiness only exists in the present moment. And in the very place where you are.

So we say , “I’ll be happy when I get this  or I have that……. ” Well, Life is not that perfect and Life is about being exhilarated, frustrated, sometimes achieving and sometimes missing out.

Those who find happiness within are destined never to lose it. But those who seek it elsewhere are doomed never to find it. It is also never to grab happiness too firmly in your hands because when it slips through your fingers , you will be so sad that you will be unable to find the same happiness again. So spread Happiness to everyone you come across. give joy to your closest family members, to your close friends and whats more to those who really need it…..make them happy and Happiness will shine back to you. This is the universal law of happiness.  The gift of happiness belongs to those who unwrap it !!

We Will See

Once, a boy was born.

At the ge of 14, he could run very fast and everyone said “what a fast runner he is”.
The Zen master replied “we’ll see”.

One day, this boy met an accident and became a cripple, everyone said “how pitiful”.
The Zen master replied “we’ll see”.

When he reached 21, he had to enlist into the army but because he was a cripple, he could not fight the war. At that time, everyone said “what a waste”.

Guess what the Zen master said?

What You Say Reflects Your Actions in Which Only That Count

All the searching that I have been doing for my entire life has today, come to a halt. And I celebrate that because I have not only found what I have been searching for my whole life – my search to answers in life, I have gained a lifetime of freedom and empowerment.

The Landmark Forum gave me access to a journey that I have never seen and even though it costs only $1070 including GST, it is worth an unlimited amount of money, and incomparable to the most lavish holiday.

This weekend retreat (Fri to Sun, 9am to 10pm) is something I have, being the sceptical me, initially rejected after going for a Tue night preview after being introduced by my partner. Thing to note too is, that this preview is only available to those who are recommended by a friend or family who had attended the course before. I had told them that I am leading a perfectly fine life and I do not need to go for a course on life. But after seeing this partner of mine transformed into a wonderful person after a few months, I have decided to go see for myself what this is all about. The word “transformed” would scare anyone, after all, we have lived our lives being who and what we are, always telling ourselves that “life is great” and “life will get better”. Really? Is that it and is that all?  ……………..

When will you ever crash?

Sleepyhead is  getting frustrated now. She is so bad at cars that she has decided to list the number of so-potential accidents that could have happened while the car was in her hands.

The following encounters are real and performed by Sleepyhead.

2002 (just got her license)

1. Trying to cut the lane at Bedok North without looking at the side mirror - almost kissed a cab.

2. Turning at a bend to ECP - accelerated instead of braking.

Stopped driving for a while.

2007

3. Scratched the back of the car against the curb at Ceylon Road because car was too near the curb.

4. Supposed to turn right at the carpark in Bedok North but went straight instead and almost crashed a bike - her brain was really still asleep!

5. Tried to park the car at the Indoor Stadium but the front hit the curb and scratched the car.

6. Tying to make a three-point turn at Ceylon Road - accelerated instead of braking and almost hit something in front.

 2008

7. Feb 17 - Blocked by a parked car at a narrow bend at Ceylon Road, made a quick turn instead of slowing down and totally almost crash the on-coming car.

I hope never to see Number 8.

Top 10 Ways To BE HAPPY

1. Choose to Be Happy at Work

Happiness is largely a choice. I can hear many of you arguing with me, but it’s true. You can choose to be happy at work. Sound simple? Yes. But, simplicity is often profoundly difficult to put into action. I wish all of you had the best employer in the world, but, face it, you may not. So, think positively about your work. Dwell on the aspects of your work you like. Avoid negative people and gossip. Find coworkers you like and enjoy and spend your time with them. Your choices at work largely define your experience. You can choose to be happy at work…….
